What is the benefit to billing your designs by the hour vs. billing as a flat rate fee?

 

WHY CHOOSE TIME-BASED BILLING?

 

Graphic design thrives when given the time it needs to be done properly. Fundamental branding requires a deep understanding of your company or product. Your brand craves an innovative strategy that aligns with its vision and goals, and pushes it to stand out amongst its competition — while continuously engaging its audience, ultimately turning browsers into buyers.

 

Billing by the hour is a great way for both client and designer to accomplish their goals without cutting corners in order to fit within the constraints of services using flat rate pricing. Graphic design depends on the ability to apply as much time, as is necessary, to yield the best possible results for each project.

 

Utilizing this approach invests in the expertise, rather than limiting your project(s) into the constraints of a flat rate timeline. It grants both client and designer the ability to check-in at pinnacle points to dot the i’s and cross the t’s, leaving no stone unturned.

 

WHICH SERVICES BENEFIT MOST FROM BILLING BY THE HOUR

 

Time-based billing allows for the ability to strategically explore a variety of different design directions that can be analyzed and tested to figure out how to best engage your target market.

 

As such, the following services generally benefit most from a fully customized scope of work and billing by the hour: Website design and development (UX/UI), logo design and brand identity, flyers and brochures, packaging, product design, etc.

HOW DOES THIS EFFECT THE BOTTOM LINE?

 

The standard hourly rate for design is $175. The hourly rate for ongoing edits and/or maintenance is $150. If your team is interested in bundled rates, ongoing retainer contracts, or simply have a strict budget in mind, there are a variety of adjustments that can be made in order to satisfy your fiscal needs.

 

In addition, non-profits and other charitable organizations may be eligible for reduced hourly rates.

STEP 1

Email me a short description of your next project. Within 72 hours, you will receive a short questionnaire to learn more about your brand.

 

STEP 2

Schedule your free consultation to kick-off your project at a mutually agreed upon time.

 

STEP 3

Let’s collaborate to define your brand, mission, goals and target market, and ideal aesthetic for your next project.

Kindly come prepared with samples of work that inspire you, brand files and guidelines (if available), and any other details that might be beneficial in scoping your project.

 

STEP 4

Review your scope of work and book your spot in my design queue by signing the contract and submitting a non-refundable 50% deposit. The remaining balance must be paid, in full, within 30 days of invoice receipt.

 

STEP 5

I will take all of your teams’ requests and ideas and translate them into simple, easy to follow designs to help your brand thrive.

 

STEP 6

Review your designs and revert back with any questions, comments or concerns.

 

STEP 7

Once finalized, all project deliverables will be provided to your team. Should your project require printing, your team will be provided proof of invoice from any vendors.

NOTE: 1. Clients may be provided with a free 1-hour consultation for each project. Additional presentations or consultations will be subject to additional fees. 2. Clients are responsible for any purchases and/or licensing including, but not limited to, digital subscriptions, printing, shipping, stock photography, and third-party fonts. 3. All payments are non-refundable and required, even if deliverables are not used by you or your client. 4. All presented materials, ideas and concepts are the sole property of Sherrod Designs until the selected material(s), idea(s) and/or concept(s) are chosen. Transfer of rights and usage will only be granted for the selected design upon full payment. All other presented work will remain the sole property of Sherrod Designs and may not be used without signed consent of Sherrod Designs. 5. Sherrod Designs has the right to terminate any contract or project at any point in time. In such circumstance, clients are responsible for compensation of deliverables provided prior to termination.
